Distinguished Speaker
Speaker: Ben Orlin
Seminar title: Puzzle Planet A good puzzle needs three things: clear question, satisfying solution, and an answer findable by logic alone. In short, everything that Planet Earth--unclear, unsolvable, illogical--is not. Yet simple puzzles can teach deep lessons. How can we stop diseases from spreading? How do we plan for worst-case scenarios? Most importantly, how do we skip out on running laps without the coach noticing? To solve our problems here on Planet Earth, we must pay a visit to the Planet of Puzzles. Ben Orlin, better known as "the math with bad drawings guy," is the author of four books, the first of which (Math with Bad Drawings, 2018) has sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide. He has taught middle school, high school, and college math. He can be found in St. Paul with his wife and two daughters; if not there, he's probably in line for ice cream somewhere. |
