Speaker: Dr. Arthur Benjamin
Dr. Arthur Benjamin is the Smallwood Family Professor of Mathematics at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. He is also a professional magician, and in his entertaining and fast-paced performance, Dr. Benjamin will demonstrate how to mentally add and multiply numbers faster than a calculator, compute the day of the week of any date in history, and other amazing feats of mind. For the last 30 years, Dr. Benjamin has presented his mixture of math and magic all over the world to thousands of groups. He has given three TED talks which have been viewed over 50 million times. He has authored several books and DVD course that share the beauty and magic of mathematics. His most recent book, "The Magic of Math" was a New York Times Bestseller. In 2012, he was selected by Princeton Review as one of The Best 300 Professors. He has received numerous awards for his writing and teaching from the Mathematical Association of America. In 2020, he was the American Backgammon Tour Online Champion, and in 2022 was inducted into the American Backgammon Hall of Fame. Dr. Benjamin has appeared on many television and radio programs, including The Today Show, CNN, National Public Radio, and The Colbert Report. He has been profiled in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Scientific American, Discover, Omni, Esquire, People Magazine, and Reader's Digest. In their "Best of America" issue, Reader's Digest called him "America's Best Math Whiz." |

2023 Rochester Area Math Competition (RAMC)
- Students in grades K-12 during the 2023-2024 school year are eligible to take the 2023 RAMC.
- There are 4 competition categories: Elementary I (Grades K-2), Elementary II (Grades 3-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). Students must register for the grade group that they are in.
- The competition will consist of one individual round, with a set of 15 questions answered in a time frame of 45 minutes.
- Tiebreakers will be used in the case of a tie to determine the winners of the individual round and team round.
- Awards will be given to the top 1 individual in each grade.
- Top 10 individuals for each division will be recognized on our website.

The University of Minnesota Talented Youth Mathematics Program (UMTYMP, pronounced "um-tee-ump") has been one of the nation's premier accelerated programs for students who are highly talented in mathematics over the last forty years. Students spend up to five years taking UMTYMP courses on the University campus earning 12 University of Minnesota math credits in the process. Students who complete the entire UMTYMP sequence typically move on to take advanced undergraduate level courses at the University or another college.
