Rochester Math Club

BA3 Group

Katherine Zhu
Katherine is currently a junior at Century High School. She has been a member of the Minnesota All-State Math Team since 8th grade and has participated in various math competitions, including MathCounts, Math League, AMC, AIME, ARML, and HMMT. Outside of math, she does ballet, studies physics, and volunteers.

Jason Ding
Jason is a freshman at Mayo High School, and has participated in numerous math competitions over the course of a few years, such as the AMC series, and MathCounts in middle school, and has attended Math Masters when he was in elementary school. In his free time, Jason enjoys playing the piano, writing dubstep music, practicing tennis, playing chess, programming custom Minecraft plugins, and spending hours on Discord.

BA4 Group

Albert Hu
Albert is currently a sophomore at Century High School, and has 5 years of experience in math competitions, including Math Masters, Mathcounts, MN HS Math League, Purple Comet, and AMC8/10. Albert also plays piano and is on the varsity swim/dive team. He is a teacher for the BOP program, which provides English tutoring for the underprivileged students in Liangshan, China. In his free time, he enjoys reading and listening to podcasts.

Ben Weingarten
Ben is a freshman at Mayo High School and is double accelerated at math. Ben is an avid swimmer, swimming for the Rochester Swim Club and the Mayo High School swim team, teaches swim lessons through ORCA and volunteers at Channel One. He enjoys swimming, reading, and watching Tela Novela.

Andrew Sun
Andrew is a sophomore at Mayo High School. He has competed in several math competitions since elementary school, including Math Masters, Math Counts, Math League, AMC, and AIME. Andrew has volunteered as an RMC coach for the Math Masters in the 2021 competition season. In addition, Andrew enjoys computer coding and is currently a USACO Gold Division participant. Outside of school, he plays piano and likes 4X strategy games.

BA5a Group

Ethan Zhang
Ethan is a
sophomore at Century High School. He has 4 years of competitional math experience and started doing math competitions in 6th grade, competing in mathcounts, moems, and amc. He also volunteered for RMC starting last summer, while being a student at RMC before that. In his free time he likes to play chess, binge anime, and read good novels. 

Hans Xu
Hans is a senior at Century High School and has been a coach for RMC for 4 years. He formerly competed in numerous mathematics competitions since elementary school, such as mathcounts and math masters. Hans is also a member of Century's Science Olympiad team and also participates in BPA. Outside of school, he can be found playing violin, chess, or reading a good book.

BA5b Group

Christine Song
Christine is currently a junior at Mayo High School. She has participated in various math competitions such as AMC, AIME, and the MN HS Math League. Christine is also a part of the school’s Science Olympiad, Debate, and Key Club. Outside of school, she actively participates in Science Fair of which she was able to receive the Seagate Rising High School student award, Regeneron Biomedical Award, and Gold Award this year (2021). She is also a 2x ISEF finalist. In her free time, she enjoys playing her oboe or watching Korean shows.

Zoey Chen
Zoey is a senior at Century High School and serves as co-captain of the debate team, where she focuses on novice development. She also co-captains the girl’s tennis team, and is a board member of the CHS Asian Youth Leadership Association. Outside of school, she is a coach for 4 years and secretary for 2 years for Rochester Math Club, where she contributes to outreach and community projects, and helps fundraise for the club and other organizations through teaching an acrylic painting class. Much of her downtime is spent learning languages and watching Asian dramas.

Pre-Algebra Group

Andrew Yan
Andrew is a senior at Century High School, and has been involved with Math Club since 8th grade. He helped organize the RMC 5k Fundraiser run in 2019 and helped organize RMC math competitions. Andrew also enjoys science related activities, participating in Century's Science Olympiad for 3 years and also was the captain for one of Century's Science Bowl teams in the 2020 and 2021 season. He also taught the RMC Introduction to Chemistry Course online during the summer of 2020.

Damian Kim
Damian is a senior at Century High School. He has participated in various math competitions over the years including MathCounts, AMC, and AIME. He has been a Rochester Math Club coach for four years. Damian has been participating in Science Olympiad events since middle school, particularly in the physical sciences. Sometimes outside of school he plays violin and plays video games.

Felix Lu
Felix is currently a sophomore at Century High School. He has participated in math competitions such as Mathcounts, and the AMC competitions (8/10/12). Outside of math he also does Science Bowl, Science Olympiad, and Century debate. He has been a Math Club coach since summer of 2020. Outside of academics Felix plays piano and violin, and plays table tennis, swimming, and Fortnite to unwind and relax.

Michael Huang
Michael is a senior at Century High School, where he is a captain of the Math League Team. He has participated in numerous math competitions, such as AMC, AIME, MathCounts, and ARML. He has volunteered as an RMC math coach since 9th grade, helping organize the Rochester Math Festival, and serving as a counselor at the Art of Sciences camps. Michael has also participated extensively in Science Olympiad and Science Bowl activities, in both middle and high school. Outside of mathematics and science, he also plays tennis, and enjoys playing video games and investing in random programming projects for fun. He especially enjoys breaking programs and websites by writing bots.

Maggie Hu
Maggie is a senior at Century High School. She is a member of the Century Math League team and has participated in multiple math competitions such as MathCounts, AMC, and ARML. She is a coach for the AMC 8 group in the Rochester Math Club. Maggie also plays piano, is on the varsity swim team, does various science competitions, and is involved in many volunteering activities. She is an administrator for the BOP program, which provides English tutoring and resources for underprivileged students in Liangshan, China. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and watching Asian dramas.

Golden Peng
Golden Peng is currently a sophomore at Century High School. He has been involved in many mathematics competitions, such as MathCounts, MN HS Math League, AMC, AIME, and ARML. He represented Minnesota during the 2018 Mathcounts Competition, and has been a member of the MN All State Math Team since 2018. He has been a coach for the Rochester Math Club since 8th grade, participating prior in Math Club, as well as helping host RMC events. He is also co-teaching the Kellogg Mathcounts Team and has taught a summer chess course. In his free time, Golden likes to peruse discord, play chess, and planespot.

AMC10 Group

William Wang
Will Wang is a junior at Boise High School. He has been actively involved in numerous academic competitions, such as MathCounts, Science Bowl, AMC, and ARML. He is a 2-time National MathCounts participant, as well the written champion for Idaho in 2018 and 2019. Will was also the math, biology, and earth science specialist of the TVMSC Science Bowl team, which placed 9th at the National Science Bowl in 2019. He has taught classes on competition math locally, as well as being a solutions writer for a course online. He is  also the principal oboist for the Idaho All-State Orchestra. During the pandemic, Will enjoys lazing around and playing soccer and table tennis, as well as tickling the ivories. His favorite composers are Satie and Rachmaninoff.

Ben Yan
Benjamin is a computer science student at Stanford University who worked as a machine learning intern at Mayo Clinic. At Mayo, he conducted and published research in high-tech medical imaging and computer vision technology. He is a U.S Presidential Scholar, one of the nation’s rarest and prestigious honors for students, a two-time International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) finalist, and a state high school math champion. With over four years of teaching experience, he has orchestrated several classes in programming, AMC 8/10, and MATHCOUNTS, where he coached a team to 4th place at State. In his free time, Ben delights in watching his hometown Minnesota Vikings, listening to Taylor Swift and Coldplay albums, going on bike rides, and playing soccer and tennis games.

Stephen Wu
Stephen is a senior at Century High School, serving as president of its STEM Society, a large organization dedicated to providing K-12 students with science and technology opportunities, and captain of its title-winning math league team. He was worked on numerous award-winning projects in the fields of computer science, machine learning, and natural language processing, alongside doing research at Mayo Clinic In the field of cancer immunology.
