Distinguished Speakers
Dr. Zachary Franco
Zachary Franco is a physician who has been teaching gifted high school students for 40 years. He helped coach the first-place 1986 US Olympiad Team, and the 1996 "most-improved" Indiana ARML team. A long time contest problem writer for AMC, ARML and AIME, he also helps with the American Mathematical Monthly Problem Section. He has undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard and earned his PhD in math from UC-Berkeley for work on the 3x+1 conjecture. After a short stint as a circus performer and a longer one as a math professor, he became a doctor of medicine. In his spare time, he continues to teach at the Houston Math Circle, Chamberlain College of Nursing and IdeaMath camps. Zac's hobbies are traveling, languages and puzzles. |
Dr. Pavlo Pylyavskyy
Dr. Pylyavskyy is a Professor in the University of Minnesota School of Mathematics (https://sites.google.com/site/pylyavskyy/) He participated in numerous math Olympiads when he was young. His Math Olympiad achievements includes 2 IMO Gold Medals, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Medals. He was also awarded the Putman fellow. |

2020 Rochester Area Math Competition (RAMC)
- Students in grades K-12 during the 2020-2021 school year are eligible to take the 2020 RAMC.
- There are 4 competition categories: Elementary I (Grades K-2), Elementary II (Grades 3-5), Middle School (Grades 6-8), and High School (Grades 9-12). Students must register for the grade group that they are in.
- The competition will consist of 2 rounds, the individual and team rounds.
- The individual round consists of a set of 15 questions answered in a time frame of 45 minutes.
- The team round consists of a set of 10 questions answered in a time frame of 25 minutes.
- A team consists of 4 students from the same competition category, either pre-registered as a team or assigned by competition organizers.
- Tiebreakers will be used in the case of a tie to determine the winners of the individual round and team round.
- Awards will be given to the top 1 individual in each grade and the top team per section.
